A mother’s priorities

She was all signed up for a business development seminar. Air fare booked. Hotel arranged. Then the date of her son’s middle school graduation changed. It fell right in the middle of her conference. The woman easily could have justified that her conference was booked first. After all, it was “only” a middle school graduation – not like it was the real high school one. But instead she put herself in her son’s shoes and realized that this was an important milestone that he would long remember.  She cancelled her trip. This mother’s decision struck me as a beautiful reminder that as parents we are the primary illustrators of our children’s childhood. The love we share, time we give, support we show, and memories we create are a direct consequence of our daily decisions. Not the priorities we claim, but the ones we show through our choices and our actions. How can you positively contribute to a young person’s childhood today?
