Well, first I was annoyed by it. Then…I used it as the foundation for a rich conversation with my team and lessons learned by all. I had just finished writing the following rant: I stopped by my inbox to a list of headlines that felt like they were yelling deadlines at me. Just a few hours left … 5 spots remaining … 6 Hours left … the call is Today!…It’s Now or Never. Yikes! It seems that the majority of marketers believe that their best shot is to yell louder and louder. And we’re all paying the price. Sure, there are times when you will best serve your tribe by reminding them of a deadline. But there’s got to be a better way. I believe so strongly that a best life is a simple life. I immediately took 10 minutes to click on unsubscribe buttons. I renewed my intent to pare down my personal inbox to those I trust to bring great value to my life. Perhaps you are ready to hand over your inbox to an assistant to forward only the emails that need your personal response. Or perhaps you’re ready to hit the Delete All button and start anew. Whatever your strategy, take a small action today to reduce the noise and increase the space you need to become a better version of yourself. So…what went wrong? Stay tuned for what happened next.
