I spent the whole school year when I was 5 years old dancing around and singing, “I’m going to marry Monte, I’m going to marry Monte.” I started doing it because I was crazy about that gentle hearted, dark haired, blue eyed boy. I kept doing it, in part, because it drove my brothers and sisters crazy. We didn’t date each other while growing up and had lost touch during our college years, when he showed up at my mom’s wake. And he never left. We renewed our friendship and then quickly fell head over heels in love. You can go through life with one person, but not one relationship. Over the past two decades, we’ve continually reinvented ourselves and our relationship. And each of the “lives” we’ve lived together has made me a better person. Happy 19th Anniversary to the best friend, husband and dad I could imagine…
I guess you really do learn everything you need to in kindergarten.
